T-Mobile is facing a lawsuit after one of its employees allegedly stole indecent images from a customer’s phone during a trade-in procedure. According to the complaint, when the customer came in to trade in their device, the employee is alleged to have used a third-party app to access personal images stored on the device.
The lawsuit, filed by the customer, claims that the employee acted without authorization or permission, and that the employee breached the customer’s trust by accessing and retaining personal, private, and intimate photos of the customer. The customer further claims that the employee stored the pictures on their personal computer.
It is unclear how the employee was able to access the photos from a third-party app on the customer’s device. T-Mobile, in response, has declined to comment on the lawsuit, and has yet to take any disciplinary action against the employee.
This case serves as a reminder that for any individual who trades in their device, they should take the necessary steps to ensure their personal data is safeguarded. Beyond having a strong password for your device, there are other measures that an individual can take, such as a factory reset, which wipes all data from the device before trade-in. Additionally, it is also important to not only delete photos, but to also ensure that they are not stored in systems outside of the users’ control. Taking these steps can help to protect any personal information stored on a device that is to be traded in.
