Honda has recently issued a recall for more than 2.5 million cars over a potentially hazardous fuel pump issue. The models affected by this recall are the 2019-2020 Honda Civic, CR-V, and Accord, as well as the 2020 Honda Insight, and the 2020 Honda Pilot and Odyssey.
The potential issue is causing the fuel pump to operate continuously. If not dealt with in a timely manner, the vehicles could experience poor engine performance or failure to start. The fuel pump is responsible for pumping gasoline from the gas tank into the engine. If the fuel pump is continuously operating, it could overload and overheat, leading to a higher risk of fire or an engine stall.
In order to remedy the issue, Honda has instructed dealers to replace the fuel pump and associated parts. Owners of affected models have been asked to have their vehicles serviced at their local dealership, free of charge. Honda has instructed customers to contact their local Honda dealers for an appointment and for any other information regarding the recall.
The issue does not appear to have resulted in any injuries or deaths, and a spokesperson for Honda stated that the company “takes the safety and security of its customers and their vehicles very seriously” and encouraged all owners of affected models to “have their vehicles repaired immediately.”
Honda has released a special notice to all affected vehicle owners, offering them detailed information about the recall process and their rights as customers.
For its part in the recall, Honda has agreed to pay for all repairs and parts. In addition, the Japanese automaker has also arranged for customize transportation services for customers who experience difficulty in getting their vehicle serviced.
While the recall affects a large number of cars, Honda hopes that addressing the issue now will help prevent a more serious issue down the line.
