The city of Nashua, New Hampshire is gearing up to quadruple its chipmaking capabilities for fighter jets. Located just outside of Boston, Nashua is home to the USCAR Design Center, a research hub for the U.S. Agency for International Development. The Nashua center has long been an established research facility with access to state-of-the-art technology and tools—and now it is on the brink of an amazing advancement.
The USCAR Design Center will be tasked with quadrupling the production of chips used in some of today’s most advanced fighter jets. These chips are responsible for retaining important back-end aircraft systems such as navigation, braking, and guidance systems and operate in conjunction with the plane’s weapons systems. This chip increase will enable the Nashua center to keep up with increasing demand and create a more efficient revision process to update the technology in existing fighter jets.
The goal of this project is to ensure the US fighter jet fleet is up-to-date and capable of carrying out its current missions. To facilitate this process, the center is stocked with some of the most high-tech and sophisticated manufacturing equipment to produce the chips. They are also working in tandem with aircraft manufactures to ensure the newest technology is incorporated in the chips.
