When it comes to Donald Trump’s former advisor Stephen Miller, it seems like his true colors are starting to show. Miller, who recently left his post within the Trump administration, is now seeking to continue Trump’s goals of deporting Palestinians from Israel to their homeland. This has been a long-held goal of the President and many of his closest advisors, but it has largely been condemned by the international community.
Unfortunately, the fact that such policies could even be proposed by a once high-ranking official is incredibly disheartening. Miller wants to force Palestinians to return to their home countries of Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon, a move which many fear would leave them without a place to go, no citizenship rights, and vulnerable to further treat. This discriminatory and frighteningly cruel plan to exile an entire ethnic group could have far-reaching implications and cause untold distress and suffering.
Miller isn’t alone in his mission. As disconcerting as it may be, other former Trump administration officials such as John Bolton and Mike Pompeo have supported the same ideas as Miller. The former Secretary of State even described the United Nations as a “proven Sabbath for rogue nations” and a “vile” place as he sought to weaken the organization’s powers.
The Trump administration’s attempt to carry these ideas through have been met with great backlash both nationally and internationally. Palestinian leaders have fiercely denounced the plans and plead with the international community for help in their fight against the policies. Thankfully, the administration’s policies have been halted by the Supreme Court.
Even though Stephen Miller is out of the White House, the international community must remain ever vigilant against his continued efforts to ensure the suffering of others. No one should be exiled, no matter their national or ethnic background. We can only hope that his threats remain unfruitful, but it is essential to continue to stand up for the rights of all people, regardless of their race or faith.
